Lewis
County Noxious Weed Control
The mission of the Washington
State Weed Board is to serve as responsible stewards
of Washington by protecting and preserving the land and resources
from the degrading impact of noxious weeds. The State Weed Board
serves as the states noxious weed coordination center.
Through its actions and policy decisions, the Board coordinates
and supports the activities of 48 county noxious weed control boards and weed districts of Washington.
Noxious weeds are destructive, non-native plants that have been introduced through human actions. Aggressive growth and lack of natural enemies make these plants a force to contend with in Lewis County.
The Lewis County Weed Control Board was established in the early seventies and has adapted over the years to meet the weed management needs of the community. Noxious weeds that impact forage and livestock have traditionally been a priority of the Board. In the last decade there has been an increased interest of the range of invasive species that impact home landscapes, forest, aquatic, and crop production systems.
For landowners, the one item that hasn’t changed is the curiosity of new invaders or toxic plants and the concerns that these weed pests bring to homes, pastures, forests and crops. The weed program welcomes the opportunity to identify and assist landowners with any of the weeds that they encounter.
